In my teens I raised pedigreed rabbits and showed them at county fairs together with my next-door neighbor. This watercolor is inspired partly from a photo I shot of my neighbor's younger brother with the rabbits, and partly from my memories of rabbit shows we attended together, amassing a box of colorful ribbons along the way. It is meant to encompass and reflect the elation youngsters feel at doing well in the competitions, and the joy we all experience when we meet other animal lovers who teach us about the care and appreciation of all species of furry friends.
