Painted en plein air at the Center for Wooden Boats, South Lake Union. I was immediately struck by the intense black of the boat's hull and the warm red of the shack's door and how their shapes were at an angle of 90 degrees to each other. I arranged my composition around this, doing a quick thumbnail sketch in black ink. Then I worked quickly wet-in-wet, mainly using hake brushes and reserving paper white for the boat's trim and its reflection.
