I love European architecture and the place in Canada that has the most authentic European architecture is the old city (la vieille ville) of Quebec City. This scene from my trip to Quebec last summer immediately caught my eye because of the contrast of the sun lit parts and the parts in shadow. I love painting these shadow shapes because it's a chance to just play with colour. I chose to make intuitive colour choices to create an exciting and inviting scene that remains faithful to the mood of the subject.
