My preference is to work with a live subject, versus a photo, whether it’s a living breathing model or a plein air landscape or subject in front of me like a boat as in this painting titled: Dry Dock Gleaming. This Summer I painted this outside at the easel under a hot July sun in a fairly deserted dry dock boat yard. It was peaceful spending time interacting with both gleaming and faded boats. The boatyard was in the eastern part of Adirondacks park, around the Ausable River territory, Willsboro Point on the New York side of the lake.
