I live very near this spot along the Colvos Passage of Vashon Island. I often enjoy a morning walk to the waterside park. This cold morning a fly fisherman was casting for searun cutthroat trout. The sunlight hit the water and illuminated the rising mist. I was immediately inspired to paint this scene. The proportions of the painting are unusual I realize. My reasoning was to emphasize the length of the massive log and also allow the tops of the trees on the distant bluff to transition off the edge of the image, thus drawing the viewers eye to the subject of the painting.
