I started drawing from my childhood in the countryside, and I loved art class so much. Those were happy times filled with passion. When I came to the United States, a much bigger country than Korea, I faced many obstacles laid before me. I stopped at times, and I stumbled at others. But looking back, they were stepping stones urging me to tread carefully, even when I paused or stumbled. It's said that Hanji (Korean Paper) is used for restoring ancient documents because it doesn't rot, as it regulates humidity itself. "Stones are like people. I wondered how sharp you are at first, and now, I want to be as gentle to you, an aged stone like myself." I decided to give new life to the stone. I wanted to carve the dots of a hundred years and the lines of a thousand years on unchanging Hanji. They said it's like sunbathing with light, turning time into light. You can hear the sound of one soft stone becoming earth in some corner of the world.
