I was introduced to art at a very young age. My mom, who was an art teacher, chose to homeschool me from kindergarten through high school. This created many opportunities for me to learn more about the things I enjoyed most: animals and drawing. Unlike most kids who enjoyed video games or TV shows, I primarily spent my time working on new drawings of animals and team mascots. I used my spending money to purchase brand new Sharpies that color matched my current favorite team’s mascot just right. This love for art carried into middle school and then high school, but was often overshadowed by sports. I would still work on drawings from time to time and enter shows when I could, but as graduation rolled around, it was time to make a decision, and I chose art. It was the best choice I made to date, and ever since I decided to take it seriously, I have never enjoyed anything so much. Having the opportunity to surround myself with amazing cohorts and faculty has fueled my dream to make art not just a hobby, but a career.
