Women Who Are Asian Immigrants is a series of painted portraits of Asian immigrant women. The series is based on my interactions with the women whom I invited to participate and interviewed with. The work explores the topics of migration, displacement, fluid identities, and humanity. She was a recent bride from Nepal, she worked as a waitress at a local Nepali restaurant and was still in the process of learning English. After a brief hesitation, she agreed to having her photo taken. It was on Valentine’s Day when I arrived for the photo shoot, she was adorned in a traditional dress.
