While spending a day at Mont St. Michel in Brittany,France, I was intrigued with the many gulls that perched on rooftops or any available surface. They are "opportunists," scanning the steps, floors, sand or landings to snatch the slightest crumb fallen from someone's croissant or any other edible. There is often a squabble if more than one spies the snack at the same time.The 350 steps one climbs to the top can be arduous, so one can pause on the step or landing and observe the activity all around, inside the monastery, as well as the beach below.
