"The Flying Squirrel" is a painting in the current series of paintings that I'm doing of Georgetown, one of Seattle's oldest neighborhoods. Although I had driven through this neighborhood many times in the past, I'd never stopped to look and walk around it until 2019 when a group of en-plein-air painters met there to paint. I've painted there half-a-dozen times since. Recently I began a series of paintings that focus on the late-Nineteenth century buildings located along Airport Way South, a main thoroughfare that runs through the neighborhood. "The Flying Squirrel," painted in the studio, is from that series.
