Stardust was painted to capture a moment filled with wonder and movement. The original title was going to be, "Turn Around and You're Four", based on a song about growing up. During the painting process, a drop of water fell onto the damp background, forming a blotch above her right arm. All of a sudden, there was a story. So I intentionally added more "blotches", which turned a possible mistake into a purposeful story. Motion and movement are painted in a way to cause the viewer to feel the swirling motion of the girl.
