Hiking the Inca Trail in Peru at up to 13,000 feet would be impossible without the help of the porters who ran past us on the trail carrying large backpacks filled with supplies. They hurried ahead on the ancient trail to set up camp and provide food for us. There was a lot of beauty along the trail but the people on the trail provided their own beauty. I love capturing character in watercolor. More than the physical features I want to capture what is within. That spark of humanity that unites us all. This Porter is on his way home with his belongings tied around his neck in a stranded plastic bag, a chance meeting on a trail used by ancients and still traveled today. A chance meeting captured in watercolor.
