This scene was inspired by memories of pine trees and lava beds as seen around Eastern Washington at sunrise when the mist is highlighted and there is a mystical presence. I represented my feelings of this with my linework in radial patterns that respected the rising sun and inferred that there was a little more going on than just another sunrise. It was my intent to let the scene carry its own weight without getting overwhelmed by something else hidden in the scene. Also I wanted to give the viewer a little more to discover when they approach the original painting for a closer look and hopefully feel a little tingle at the back of their neck.
