Diamond Head in Early February portrays the stunning colors that this landmark always presents. Its hues change continually, as the season and light affect them. I have painted this scene en plein air many times, as I live in Hawaii. This landscape always intrigues and surprises me. In this watercolor, I have contrasted the bright horizontal bands of color near the summit with the tent-like shapes of the volcano’s greener lower slopes, and the soft, curvilinear blues and whites of the ocean and beach at Waikiki.
