Compelled by their captivating hues, upon seeing the croton plant I immediately knew that watercolor was the right medium to use to memorialize these leaves. The leaf colors of the croton plant, or Codiaeum variegatum, include shades and combinations of green, red, pink, orange, yellow and lavender. These beautiful plants are native to Indonesia and other south Pacific islands. As much as flowers are typically a valued ornament of most plants the leaves of the croton plant proudly represent the vivid colors of Hawaii.
