On one of a number of trips to France, I visited a vineyard in the Beaujolais region. We were invited to a wine tasting. While there, the owner of the vineyard first gave us a tour through the vineyard, while all the while pulling out his snippers from his back pocket. I was intrigued by his attention to detail, clipping vines here and there, interrupting his talk. While he could have left such chores to an employee, his intensity was noticeable in every aspect of the tour. In the portrayal of him, he had stepped inside and I marveled at the "medieval" machinery behind him. I imagined that this vineyard must have been in his family for many generations.
