Hillkurtz – Painting the Light of Paris

May 2025
Alex Hillkurtz

From Paris, we bring you Alex Hillkurtz. Alex’s career as a renowned storyboard artist for feature films, TV, and commercials is the background for his work as an extraordinary urban landscape artist.

In this “Workshops International” workshop, “Painting the Light of Paris”, Alex shares with you his techniques for painting the light of Paris in watercolor and ink. Alex lives in and loves the architecture of this historical city, particularly the classic Paris cafés with their distinctive character. This subject will give you plenty to dive in to – linear and atmospheric perspective, a strong focal point, and of course the light (and shadows) that Paris is so famous for. His goal is to give you the techniques needed to make you a more confident painter, and to have you take away a piece you’ll be proud of. His instruction will be only the beginning of your refreshed painting and sketching process, whether in studio or as an urban sketcher.

To prepare for the workshop, find the image on page 2 of the supplies list and have your sketch prepared.

Library recordings are the full 3 hours of the original workshop.

A valuable workshop for all skill levels.
