Nahcotta Harbor in Willapa Bay is full of oyster dredges, commercial craft, and sport boats. The strong shadows beneath the docks and the warm light on the buildings caught my eye on a summer afternoon. I brought a photo home to my studio where I tried to capture the feel of a working harbor in rural Washington. I used a variety of colors to build the greens found in the trees and the dock shadows, and kept the brush strokes vigorous to portray the rustic feel of the docks.
