For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be an artist. I was raised by my grandparents, both artists, my grandpa a woodworker and my grandma a fused glass jewelry maker, and they gave me the inspiration and confidence I carry today. Art has always been the most instinctive and most fulfilling way for me to express myself, especially when it comes to complicated emotions. In high school, I was quickly encouraged to enroll in the studio art program, where I began building a portfolio that I later used for AP 2D Design, earning a 5 on my AP Portfolio and receiving a Scholastic Silver Key shortly after COVID during an exceptionally selective award cycle. Now, a year into the Fine/Studio Arts program at Everett Community College, I recently received the Russell and Marjorie Day Art Scholarship, awarded to outstanding studio art students. It was very affirming to have my portfolio, combining academic and independent work,
considered alongside a competitive group of student artists. I’m excited to continue expanding my work and growing as an artist at EvCC before transferring to pursue a degree in Art Education at a four-year college.
