This does NOT apply to anyone residing outside of WA state.  \nRule-Breaking\, Heart-Affirming Watercolor with Angela Fehr\nPaintings come alive when artists take risks and break a few rules! In this workshop\, Angela will share how she’s shifted her approach to watercolor from rigid perfectionism to playful\, experimental watercolour painting. She will teach you how to use the skills and techniques of watercolor with an intuitive trust in the process\, working in a series to shift from literal to abstract\, making room for mistakes and experimentation that lets your unique artistic voice shine on the paper. \nAngela believes that the perceived limitations that you might hold are the key to your individual strength and voice and will offer suggestions to help you shift your thinking from “fight” to “freedom!” If you’re struggling to let go of control and play with watercolour more freely\, this session will inspire and encourage you! \nWorkshop Topics: \n\nUnderstanding intuitive process\nStrategies for more playful painting\nDeveloping an abstracted version of a literal subject (using landscape as an example)\nWorking with thumbnails\, value studies and notans\nExperimenting and mark making\n\nThis is a fast-paced workshop as Angela works rapidly and intuitively with many techniques and approaches demonstrated\, plan to watch and paint as you can and then set aside time to rewatch the workshop more slowly in the 30 days of access following the event. \nAbout Angela: Living in rural northern British Columbia\, Canada\, Angela’s art turned a corner from rigid perfectionism to freedom and fluidity as she learned to trust the medium and pour love and presence into her paintings. \nAngela’s approach to watercolour is one that prioritizes self-expression\, developing her paintings through multiple\, experimental studies. Angela describes her painting process as “heart-led\,” pairing her extensive knowledge of watercolour technique with a willingness to allow the painting to evolve with freedom\, as each brush stroke suggests a new direction to be explored with curiosity and vulnerability. \nSupply List

DESCRIPTION:START TIME: 6:00 (Pacific time)\nPortland-based painter Scott Gellatly brings a vibrant\, expressive approach to the landscapes around him. Working in oil\, casein\, and monotype\, he moves fluidly between representation and abstraction\, using lush surfaces\, bold color\, and energetic mark-making to transform familiar environments into luminous\, emotionally rich experiences. Rooted in a lifelong connection to nature\, his recent work leans further toward abstraction\, distilling place into gesture\, hue\, and atmosphere. \nScott holds a painting and drawing degree from the University of Oregon and has exhibited nationally. His two decades in the art materials industry—including his role as Product Manager at Gamblin—inform his sought-after lectures and workshops. He now teaches widely\, including plein air programs in Italy and Croatia\, and is represented by LAURA VINCENT DESIGN & GALLERY and Smith & Vallee Gallery.
