SUMMARY:Samish Island Paint-Out - September 2026
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION OPENS JULY 23\, 2026.\nREGISTRATION CLOSES ON SEPT 8\, WHICH IS 1 WEEK BEFORE CAMP BEGINS \nBe aware that any cabin requests must be noted on the registration form and that cabins are assigned on a first-come-first-served basis. \nArtists working in all mediums love Paint-Out: collage artists\, watercolorists\, oil & acrylic painters\, knitters\, and other media artists. Some artists work on small pieces\, but there is space for those working very large. There is a large bulletin board where artists pin their finished work for all to see\, and artists enjoy being the first one up. \nThe camp’s accommodations are brightly painted quaint heated vintage cabins with a bathroom nearby. For a few more dollars\, there are cabins with a shared bathroom facility\, and accommodations for these are on a first-come-first-served basis with preference given to those who are willing to share. \nCOSTS: Camp cost is very reasonable no matter which accommodation type you choose. For example\, the most popular choice is the “Full 4-day Camp\, Vintage Cabin”\, which costs $415.00\, including meals. There are also options to attend camp for fewer days or to attend camp and find accommodations elsewhere. While planning\, note the Cancellation Policy on the registration form. \nWHAT TO BRING: Click the “Supplies Button” on this page.

SUMMARY:SEPTEMBER 2026 GENERAL MEETING DEMONSTRATION WITH DONGFENG LI
DESCRIPTION:START TIME: 6:00 (Pacific time)\nJoin us on Sept 22 as we welcome award-winning watercolorist and occasional oil painter\, Dongfeng Li\, to our general meeting as the demo artist. \nBorn in China\, Li’s creative journey began early. In elementary and middle school\, he was already captivated by drawing. He sharpened his skills through high school by working on propaganda posters before turning his focus toward portraiture. \nIn 1992\, he moved to the U.S and earned two Master’s degrees. For more than two decades\, he was an instructor at Morehouse State University (KY)\, guiding countless artists while continuing to grow his own voice in his work. \nDongfeng Li’s watercolors have been exhibited widely\, including prestigious venues such as National Watercolor Society shows\, American Watercolor Society exhibitions\, and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. While his recent focus leans toward landscapes\, his true passion is portraiture. In 2010\, his grant project titled “Cat’s Cradle” explored cultural connections and differences between people in eastern Kentucky and China. To tell that story\, he painted coal miners from both regions\, using faces and environments to reveal shared human threads. Says Li: “I like to share my experience and views with all people\, not only my students\, but I like to talk and communicate with all people. That’s where my inspiration comes from.” \nTogether we will see how he transforms a portrait into a sensitively textured masterpiece—rich with mood\, detail\, and emotion. It will be an enlightening experience to see his technique come alive as he shares with NWWS.
