Ross Quesnell 2011 Northwest Watercolor Foundation Gold Grant Scholarship Recipient
The NWWF is pleased to announce that Ross Quesnell, a junior at Central Washington University in Ellensberg, WA is the recipient of the Foundation's $1500 GOLD GRANT AWARD FOR 2011. The Gold Grant is an educational award that was started in the early 1990’s by the Northwest Watercolor Society as an annual scholarship given by the Society’s Northwest Watercolor Foundation, the service and community involvement non-profit organization associated with NWWS. Previous recipients have been high school seniors or college students who have seriously dedicated themselves to the study and pursuit of a career in art. This year the Foundation accepted 17 applications by art majors in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Jurors for this year's scholarship were impressed with Ross Quesnell's skill and creativity in diverse artistic media and with his artist's statement where he discussed plans to pursue a career in the educational department of an art museum. Every scholarship applicant also submits a biography, an essay on what being an artist means to them, and a letter of recommendation by faculty at the school they attend. Mr. Quesnell and his parents Paul and Sandy Quesnell of Kennewick, WA, attended a dinner in his honor and he was presented with the $1500.00 award at the general meeting of the Northwest Watercolor Society in Bellevue, Washington on April 26, 2011.
