NWWS PLEIN AIRE SCHEDULE SUMMER 2010
NWWS artists are invited to participate in the Plein Aire trips that are scheduled. We will meeting at the listed locations each week, alternating between Thursday and Saturday mornings commencing June 3, continuing to September 4. Some particulars:
Schedule of the Day: We will begin at 9:30 am or as early as you care to. At about 1 pm, we will gather at a convenient location for lunch and a show-and-tell where everyone can display their painting and see others’ work.
Bring: A sack lunch, water, and your painting paraphernalia.
Driving Directions: Street addresses are given for each painting location. It is assumed you will look at the Internet for maps and directions. In the case of state parks, look at www.parks.wa.gov, click on ‘Find a park’, select your destination, and click on ‘Go’, to get your directions.
Rain: Painting events will not be officially cancelled in the event of rain. Each artist will exercise their own judgment for the call.

PAINTING LOCATIONS
Thursday, June 3 - Snoqualmie Falls at Salish Lodge, 6501 Railroad Ave SE, Snoqualmie WA
From 1-405/I-90 junction, drive east on I-90 E. Continue approximately 16 miles to exit 25. Take the WA-18 W exit 25, toward Snoqualmie Parkway. Turn left onto WA-18. WA-18 becomes SE Snoqualmie Parkway. Turn left onto Railroad Ave SE (WA-202). Follow WA-202 to Salish Lodge, parking area on right. Crossover on pedestrian bridge toward viewing area of falls. Continue on path to bottom of riverbed if desired. After painting, gather at the viewing platform.
Saturday, June 12 - Volunteer Park, Seattle: 1247 – 15th Ave E.
Features undulating vistas through stands of trees, and architectural features of the Asian Museum and the reservoir. Gather in the parking lot in front of the Seattle Asian Art Museum.
Thursday, June 17 - Farrel-McWhirter Park, Redmond: 195 NE Redmond Road.
Hwy 520 east towards Redmond. 520 becomes Avondale Rd. Exit onto Avondale Rd NE. At about 0.4 of a mine, turn a slight right onto NE Novelty Hill Rd. Then turn left onto NE Redmond Rd (first left). This will become NE 102nd Place which then becomes NE 108th Place. The park will be on your left. If you go to NE 108th Place, you have gone too far. We will meet in the parking lot.
Saturday, June 26 - Washington Park Arboretum, Seattle: 2500 Arboretum Dr E
From I-5, take exit 168-B (Bellevue-Kirkland) onto Hwy 520. Immediately take the first exit (Montlake Blvd.) from 520. From the exit ramp, go straight across Montlake Blvd. onto E Lake Washington Blvd. and follow it into the Arboretum.
From 520 West (Evergreen Point Floating Bridge), take the first Seattle exit (Lake Washington Blvd. S). At the stop sign, turn left into the Arboretum. Meet at the visitors center located near north end of the Arboretum Drive E, the “upper” (eastern) Arboretum road. To reach it, turn left at the “Y” in the road as you enter the Arboretum, then right onto Arboretum Drive E.
Thursday, July 1 - McCormick Park, Duvall: 26200 NE Stephens St.
Features - views of Snoqualmie River, farm land, foothills of Woodinville. Gather in the parking lot where we will pick a convenient spot for show-and-tell.
Saturday, July 10 - Fremont/Aurora Bridge(s), Seattle: N 34th St. & Evanston Ave. N
Features view of superimposed bridges along Lk Washington Ship Canal and Burke-Gilman trail. There is 2-hour on-street parking in the immediate vicinity of the address and all-day on-street west of Phinney Ave. N. Quadrant Lake Union Center has paid on-street parking and public parking garages within their private property. Gather at the steps on Burke-Gilman trail, foot of Evanston.
Thursday, July 15 - Fisherman's Terminal, Seattle: 3919 – 18th Ave W.
Start out going west on WA-520 W toward Seattle. Merge onto I-5 S via the exit on the left toward Portland. Take Exit 167 toward Aquarium / Seattle Center.
Turn right onto Fairview Ave N. Turn left onto Valley St. Turn slight right onto Westlake Ave N.
Westlake Ave N becomes Nickerson St. Continue on Nickerson St. past Seattle Pacific University. Follow signs to W Emerson St. W Emerson St becomes W Emerson Pl
Turn right onto 19th Ave W. Turn right onto W Nickerson St. Turn left onto 18th Ave W.
Saturday, July 24 - Weeks Falls, Ollallie State Park, North Bend:
Weeks Falls is a fabulous cascading falls with a glorious pool below. We’ll gather alongside the hydroelectric station.
Thursday, July 29 - Green Lake, Seattle: 7201 E Green Lake Drive N.
Start out going west on WA-520 toward Seattle. After crossing floating bridge, merge onto I-5 N toward Vancouver BC. Take Exit 169 toward NE. 50th ST. / Seattle Pacific Univ.
Turn left onto NE 50th St. Turn right onto Green Lake Way N. Continue, past playing fields on left.
Turn left onto E Green Lake Way N. Turn slight right onto Auroua Ave N / WA-99 N.
At next right turn, turn right onto Green Lake Way N. Continue, turn right into parking lot. We’ll meet near the Bathhouse Theater.
Saturday, August 7 - Three Forks Natural Area, North Bend: SE Reinig Rd & 428th Ave SE
Features – views of Snoqualmie River, Mt. Si and wildlife preserve. We’ll gather in the stream bed near the best large log.
Thursday, August 12 - Jubilee Farm, Carnation: 229 W Snoqualmie River Road NE
Take I-90 eastbound to Exit 22 (Preston/Fall City). Follow signs to Fall City. In Fall City, at the stop sign, go straight over the bridge. After the bridge make an immediate left onto Hwy 203 N toward Carnation. Stay on Hwy 203 N for 5 miles. Turn left on the Tolt Hill Rd (before the bridge - Remlinger's is to the right). Follow the road until you come to a large Jubilee Farms sign, and turn left. Follow signs. We'll meet near the store porch.
Saturday, August 21 - Downtown Snohomish: 40 Maple Ave. (Cady Park)
Features great painting views of the Snohomish River You may also fan out over downtown to paint – let's gather at Cady Park, foot of Maple Ave..
Thursday, August 26 - Master Gardeners Garden, Bellevue
From I-90, take exit 148 north. Turn right onto SE 16th Street. The garden is on the left beyond the Ranger’s Station. Meet in the parking lot.
Saturday, September 4 - 1st Avenue S Industrial Area, Seattle: 4150 – 1st Ave. S
Paint the industrial warehouses, train yards, cranes, on-going construction, viaducts, or anything along the stretch. Use the toilet facilities at Daniel Smith store, and gather under the viaduct there after painting.
